Speaking with Axios, Tim Sweeney said that Epic Games is moving forward with launching self-publishing tools along with preparing the Epic Games Store to eventually appear on iOS and Android.

I have always believed that there is a tipping point where we are getting close to a breakthrough, a Cambrian event or a new evolution in the history of stores that will bring us out of the impasse we have been in.

Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games

Sweeney said that most digital marketplaces “have one store per platform that charges much higher fees than real stores charge as a markup on goods because they are the only one”.

According to Sweeney, their ultimate goal is to get the Epic Games Store on iOS and Android which he believes will be met with legal challenges and regulatory pressure eventually.

When asked by Axios if Epic Games has an app for everything and is ready to go, Sweeney said: “Yes, we do.”

Although Sweeney did not express a clear ambition to put the Epic Games Store on Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo, he did say that Epic Games wants to work with all platforms to “agree on some industry standards to recognize player rights and also player social systems”.

In other words, Sweeney wants players to buy games on one device and have them everywhere, connect with friends on one platform, and connect with them everywhere.
