Naoki Yoshida: Final Fantasy XVI Could Happen Thanks to PS5

Speaking during the global media tour for Final Fantasy XVI, Naoki Yoshida said that Final Fantasy XVI can come to life thanks to the power of the PS5 to support it.

Our development also focused on graphical quality. We wanted to utilize the power of the PS5 to create a highly detailed world that can only be done in video games.

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, is our dedication to creating fresh and exciting new combat systems. Over the past few years, real-time action games have continued to become the norm among gamers. To follow suit and further develop the Final Fantasy franchise, Final Fantasy XVI has moved away from the traditional command-based battle system, which was more common in previous games in the franchise and adopted true real-time action controls. However, this does not only involve controlling Clive himself.

In addition to small-scale battles, the hallmark of Final Fantasy XVI’s battle system is summon versus summon battles that allow players to take control of giant creatures known as Eikon to do battle on a large scale.

All of that is possible because of the power of the PS5.

Players will experience a seamless transition from gameplay to cutscenes to combat, all without load times. Something that helps maintain the feeling of a non-stop roller coaster ride that we ultimately aim for.

Final Fantasy XVI will release on PS5 on June 22, 2023.
